Below you will find a list of the most popular categories of machines at Staffs Operator Training along with their uses and length of course (for non experienced workers).

360° Excavator

Uses:
Excavations, Bulk earth moving, House building (Foundations), Landscaping, Coal, Quarry, Pipelines. Has many attachments such as different sized buckets and breakers for breaking rocks. Also comes in a variety of sizes up to 250 tonnes.

Course Duration:
2 weeks / 70 hours

180° Excavator

Uses:
Excavations, House building (Foundations), Landscaping, General utility machine, Will travel to job location without the need for heavy transport.The machine features an arm on the back and a versatile ’4 in 1′ bucket on the front which includes fold away forks.

Telescopic Materials Handler

Uses:
Extremely versatile machine, a bucket can be fitted as well as forks. 4WD/4W Steer capability. With a fully extended reach of 13m. Often used in house building because of its ability to lift materials onto scaffolding.

1 week / 35 hours

Dump Truck

Uses:
Sometimes called a ‘Bendy’ because it articulates in the center. Used for hauling all types of materials on bulk ‘muck’ shifts.

1 week / 35 hours

Loading Shovel

Uses:
Articulated, some machines you can remove the bucket and fit different attachments. Used for loading duties, most machines have a single joystick for controlling the lifting arm.

1 week / 35 hours

Forward Tipping Dumper

Uses:
Up to ten tonnes, a good introduction into the industry, useful for tight spaces and all aspects of site work for hauling and transporting materials.

Course Duration:
3 days / 24 hours

Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP)

Uses:
Accessing platform, comes in 3 different categories:

Boom – ‘Cherry Picker’ (in picture)

Scissor – ‘Flying Carpet’

Self-propelled (on wheels).
